Binge-watching the last two days was definitely worth it, but readers should be cautious about getting emotionally invested in the characters.
Minor Spoiler:
Although some characters reappear, it's the thought that counts. I was hoping for more substance when the story reached its conclusion, particularly with the C-Position battles. It seemed like a placeholder term for the top-ranking trainees, functioning as a platform for debut, but it felt underdeveloped and lost significance later on. In the context of entertainment, C-Position refers to the central position in idol groups or bands, where the standout members receive the most visibility. In essence, it boiled down to ranking the top ten, so perhaps my confusion源于翻译问题。 Don't worry about it.
If you're searching for a unique urban fantasy with unsettling plot twists, morally complex characters, an engaging main couple that starts as adversaries, and a gripping enemies-to-lovers storyline where they fiercely confront each other, then I highly suggest giving this book a try!
This novel is definitely worth a read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. If you appreciate this genre, you might also enjoy "Born Lucky," "Supernatural Actor Movie App," and "Using Poverty to Conquer Survival Games." All these novels share a similar premise, featuring shounen-ai or BL relationships, though the level of heat and interaction between the couples may vary compared to this one.
I started this review after reading one translated chapter, intrigued by the description. Although the translation was decent, I absolutely fell in love with this novel – it evoked strong emotions, making me shed tears multiple times. The story had a heartwarming and satisfying conclusion, which was a beautiful ending for the characters.
The main character (MC) is a cool and badass individual, appearing aloof and self-focused. However, once he commits to something, he displays remarkable loyalty, even if it puts him through hardships. This trait resonated with me and showcased his admirable qualities.
Initially, I thought the mysterious character (Zhuge?) was the love interest (ML), but that turned out to be a delightful twist. The ML has a wild side, and there's an intense sexual tension between the main couple that adds a spicy element to their relationship. Their emotional connection and the way they brought excitement into each other's lives were truly touching.
The beginning of their journey involved playful, yet intense, confrontations, with the ML seemingly trying to harm the MC. However, their power dynamics were intriguing, with the ML holding back due to curiosity and admiration for the MC. The dynamic between them was amusing, as the MC often outsmarted the ML, maintaining a level of equality despite the power imbalance.
The ML's character development was quite moving, especially a scene where he asked the MC about leaving, while still holding on tightly. There were moments of sadness with character deaths, but they all had their happily-ever-afters, including a touching side couple's story.
In summary, this novel combines thrilling elements, emotional depth, and a captivating love story. The characters' growth, especially the ML's, tugged at my heartstrings, and the resolution of their journey was satisfying. Overall, a highly enjoyable read!
The villain, often referred to as "the devil," wasn't portrayed as truly evil in my opinion. His actions were manipulative, but not to the extent of the other players'恶意. The prophecy about killing the devil felt forced, as the main character, despite being supposedly intelligent, blindly followed it without much reasoning. Their rivalry was shallow, simply driven by hearsay and the author's attempt to label it as an enemy-to-lovers plot.
The character development was lackluster, with no proper build-up or progression. The supposed "antisocial" nature of the male lead was inconsistent – he displayed emotions towards others but not the protagonist. The romance felt rushed and unconvincing, with no emotional depth or development.
In contrast, TDTFS had a stronger foundation for their conflict and character growth. The relationship dynamics in that story were more nuanced and engaging. This novel, however, fell short. The characters were one-dimensional, the plot dragged, and the writing was monotonous. Overall, it's an average read, suitable for passing the time but certainly not exceptional.
The supporting characters lack depth and distinct personalities, which makes them feel one-dimensional. The ML's overwhelming power level, revealed as a spoiler, was disappointing. There was supposed to be a competitive dynamic between the two, but the stark contrast in their abilities takes away from that tension.
My initial enthusiasm was high, but given these issues, I think it's time for me to discontinue reading this novel.
If you're open to such narratives, the protagonist's opulence can be appealing, and once you get invested, the thrilling elements keep you engaged, almost to the point of overlooking minor inconsistencies. The excitement factor is genuinely high, which is why I would rate it 7/5 based on that aspect alone.
However, the plot and instances might not be exceptional; there are instances where the author drops hints abruptly or has characters reach conclusions without adequate explanation. But these moments are redeemed by the occasional innovative ideas, which are both intriguing and well thought out. It's as if the author intentionally avoids mundane detective work, presenting the clues directly to maintain reader interest.
Though the book lacks a strong mystery element, the adventure and action sequences make up for it. Here are some standout original aspects I enjoyed:
1. The protagonist's inhuman appearance is utilized in a plot twist, adding depth beyond just being a Gary Stu trait.
2. One instance turns unexpectedly into a Deus Ex Machina, saving the MC in an unexpected way.
3. The main character's backstory also offers a unique touch.
Initially, I was considering a higher rating, around 4 or 5 stars. However, given the overall rating of 4.9, which seemed inflated, I chose to balance it by giving it a 3 to bring it down. A score of 4.5 to 4.7 would have been more fitting.
Nonetheless, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to those who can appreciate chuunibyou stories without the usual tropes, as it still maintains a relatively normal plotline. The book offers a stronger romantic and intimate dynamic compared to the author's earlier work, especially in a later chapter around 170, which adds an exciting touch to the story.
In summary, if you enjoy stories with a touch of chuunibyou but want a well-rounded plot, this book is worth a read, despite its flaws. The steamy scenes, in particular, are more engaging than the summary suggests, and the book offers a decent adventure experience.
It seems his character's origin is rooted in the darkest aspects of humanity (or possibly divine malice), equating him to an Evil God from another dimension, which makes the main system powerless against him.
The ending was pleasantly surprising; I expected the protagonist to return to his own world, but instead, he chose to remain trapped in the infinite loop with the male lead. There was no emotional attachment for him to leave, and in this endless cycle, he could finally embrace his madness without restraint. It's an unconventional and intriguing conclusion.
