The plot revolves around intense, thought-provoking revenge, not the kind that can be settled quickly or easily forgotten. The Unnamed Author's vendetta serves as a reminder of the power authors wield through their words – they shape readers' thoughts and perceptions. The ending, which reveals everyone's true identities, requires some detective work to piece together.
While many might find the conclusion unsatisfying, personally, I found it compelling. One particular scene that stood out for me was the protagonist's initial reaction upon discovering his husband's infidelity: "I'll kill him. I'll destroy him, and then that Childhood Sweetheart of his." Speculating, the protagonist might have been too consumed by emotions to consider divorce, shock, or possibly due to his financial stake in his husband's company.
Alternatively, the protagonist could be a hidden psychopath, as suggested by events in the epilogue. After all that, he ends up with a seemingly loyal dog, which could be a subtle clue. So, be cautious – this is a romantic drama with themes of revenge and violence. Enjoy it during the day, as there are descriptions of gore that might not be suitable for bedtime reading.
Leaving incriminating texts and sex tapes on the husband's computer seems unconvincing; a rational person would delete such evidence. Additionally, eloping would typically involve leaving no digital trail or staying in a foreign location, not a honeymoon villa. The GPS tracker on the victim's body raises eyebrows, as it's detectable through the company's software and could lead investigators to the source.
The public revelation of the affair tape puts the protagonist at high risk of being seen as a vengeful killer. They should have chosen a less obvious motive. The locked room scenario is unrealistic – it would be simple to break out with makeshift tools like chairs or curtains. The protagonist's actions, like throwing a knife through a window, suggest carelessness rather than planning.
Overall, the protagonist could have been more meticulous in their planning. Using a distinctive car to tail the couple is a red flag, and bribing individuals, including a character with a fabricated backstory, poses significant risks. The presence of hidden cameras in their home, despite being a 'neet' and easily discovered, doesn't align with a husband wanting to murder his partner. The story's pacing and logic need improvement for a more convincing narrative.
"My assumptions about the characters are as follows:
1. Ex-husband's older brother A is Lu Hai: This is clear since the book explicitly states his identity.
2. Officer D's real name is Zhuang Yu: He is the one who tried to rescue his childhood sweetheart Luo Yu from the asylum but failed (refer to Epilogues 6 and 8).
3. Film Emperor C is Chu Linshan: Some may disagree, but considering Ji Qu's memory loss and the fact that others, like Xiao Hua, didn't recognize the man picking up Shen Yizhou (Epilogue 3), it makes sense that Ji Qu wouldn't recognize him. Plus, Chu Linshan's luxurious car and his eventual retirement from acting decrease the likelihood of a recognition. The habit of scratching his head and stuttering serves as a distinct identifier for him.
4. Editor Friend B is Ji Qu: This is rather obvious, but the author's confusing details might lead to confusion. Editor B's shady nature, eagerness to help, and intimate knowledge of the protagonist's life point to his connection. From their Robin analogy in Chapter 6 to his willingness to wait a decade for the protagonist in Chapter 23, it's evident that Editor B is more than just a friend.
Despite the protagonist's psychopathic tendencies, like manipulating people and lacking empathy, I find satisfaction in seeing the antagonist suffer. The protagonist's cold detachment and ability to mimic emotions are chilling, but their motivations remain unclear. Their marriage to the ex-husband and treatment of others show a darker side. While there are plot holes, the focus on the abuse of the antagonist is what draws me in. If you have recommendations for similar novels where the protagonist seeks revenge, please share."
The protagonist's resilience in the face of betrayal was truly remarkable. Despite committing an act that, from my perspective, warranted severe punishment, he managed to maintain a complexity that evoked both admiration and mixed feelings. I was deeply moved by his journey, even though I can't condone his actions or those of the betrayers – his husband and his lover. Ideally, the entire situation would have been avoided.
Nonetheless, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this work a read. It's thought-provoking and emotionally engaging, even with its flaws.
The narrative begins with the protagonist suspecting his husband's sinister intentions, uncovering an affair with his childhood sweetheart, and then ingeniously planning the ultimate payback. Although the romantic aspect might not classify it as a traditional yaoi, the character Editor B (Ji Qu) definitely stands out. It's evident that he has feelings for the main character, expressing a willingness to wait years for their reunion. He seems to be aware of the MC's plans, hinted at through the robin analogy and the "illness" clue, even assisting in the execution. In the end, it appears that they do eventually come together, though it's not without some suspense. The husband meets his demise, the former lover suffers psychological trauma, the MC exacts their revenge, and there's a happy ending for our protagonist - plus, a loyal dog named Ji Qu by their side.
Rating this book at five stars falls short of capturing its brilliance. As for critics who argue the protagonist's response to infidelity seems unrealistic or lacks emotion, consider his declaration of being an "observer." This reveals a detached, calculated approach to the situation.
What sets "Slag Gong Wants to Kill Me" apart is the lack of attempts to justify the antagonist's cheating or make the reader empathize with him. The husband (let's call him ML for now) is portrayed as despicable throughout, and spoiler alert: he meets his demise fittingly. The person he cheats with, despite knowing about his married status, actively seeks to harm the MC, further adding to the satisfaction of the plot.
The revenge storyline is intricate and thrilling, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Although some might argue that it leans towards the unrealistic side, the intensity and the恨意 build-up make it an enjoyable read. The ending, with the Editor's involvement and the unexpected twist, adds depth to the narrative.
Overall, this is a fantastic revenge tale that doesn't shy away from delivering justice to the wrongdoers. If you're tired of seeing scum gongs get off easy, this book is a must-read. I'd rate it a solid 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.
