Ren Xingliu transmigrated into a world in troubled times, struggled for half of his lifetime, and eventually achieved success and recognition, working as a good general and minister. Then he returned to modern times, when he was just about to graduate from university.
Ren Xingliu who had his fill of wind and frost: I’m beat. Simplicity is the way to go.
—
Ren Xingliu, the ignorant, incompetent, reckless and daring young master of the Ren Family, was about to graduate. Everyone was waiting to watch him turn the Ren Family completely on its head. One with malicious intentions even deliberately introduced him to an honest person without status or background, Bai Juanqiu.
Never did he expect Ren Xingliu to be so content with this honest person.
Ren Xingliu: He seemed to be someone who could live a carefree life with. Alright, let’s make do with this.
Bai Juanqiu had been putting on his honest persona for twenty years, but those people still wouldn’t let him live in peace and went ahead and introduced him to a notorious silk pants. Bai Juanqiu decided to stop pretending.
Afterward…
Bai Juanqiu: Well, let me just eat my delicious words, because I can keep pretending for two more years.

It did get a bit repetitive in some chapters, but overall, it felt well-paced and well-thought-out, without dragging out issues or resorting to too much melodrama.
It was genuinely such an adorable romance, filled with lots of cute moments and precious interactions between them.
Really straightforward, with minimal plot; everything is wrapped up quickly, featuring overpowered main characters.
Perfect for when you need a break from complex stories.
Apart from that, the novel was harmless, which is both a positive and a negative. On the plus side, there was really nothing wrong with it. The main characters (MC and ML) are smart and likable, the villains get their comeuppance as they should, and the story is overall sweet. However, it's also a bit bland. There’s no real tension, the characters don’t doubt themselves when it comes to romance, the side characters are quite one-dimensional, and the MC and ML have a ton of money, of course, because we can't have a Chinese or Korean novel with a couple who isn’t swimming in cash.
The whole "transmigrated and became a general, then came back to his young modern self" is the cornerstone of this novel, yet it feels like the author came up with the idea on the fly and never bothered to delve deeper into it. It's just a convenient tool to explain why the MC is suddenly super overpowered and smart. Why do I say that? Because other than being skilled and perfect out of the blue, the MC still acts like an 18-year-old kid with no issues. He apparently spent decades living and fighting in an ancient era, but he has no trouble adapting to his "new" life. Surely, there was more to do with the concept? Does the MC not get lost? Get sick? Get PTSD from his old battles? Get overwhelmed seeing his mother again? Have to remember how modern appliances and cars work? Does he not miss anything from his old life, such as companions or places? Is he not disturbed by the fact that his once well-built and resilient body is now small and soft, with no muscles? Are there no instances of him thinking he can push or break something with ease but ending up hurting himself because he forgot that he isn’t in the body of an experienced general?
What did the author do to show how the MC adapted to his sudden second transmigration? They simply wrote that he spent a whole night on his phone because he missed it, and that's it. Come on.
I can't help but feel disappointed about the missed potential and the simplicity of it all. There was a way to keep the story sweet while still exploring the MC's past experiences and how they affect him. Throughout the entire novel, I couldn't help but feel like the MC was indeed a fresh 17 (or 18?) year-old boy and not someone who has lived an entire lifetime already.
I would still recommend it, though. For those who crave a healthy BL romance.
Additionally, every chapter had me giggling uncontrollably. The comedy was excellent. Sometimes a chapter starts off really sweet and romantic, but the ending has me laughing out loud. The main character is so chaotic, and the love interest’s attitude is always, “Well, what can I do if my heart is already his?” 🤣
The translation is also very satisfying. I loved every footnote! Thank you so much, dear translator! ♡ (˶˃wt˂˶)
That said, I'm a bit disappointed that the 'god of war' aspect doesn't really come into play. The MC is intelligent, and there's a team-building mini-arc where he's overpowered, but the whole idea of him being a brilliant general and an amazing fighter never really materializes due to the current timeline's circumstances. I kept waiting for him to showcase some incredible feats that earned him the 'god of war' title, but it never happened. While it makes sense given his original body wasn't that of a fighter, it still feels like a missed opportunity. There should have been something more.
The first part of this novel is genuinely hilarious; the author has a great comedic touch. It’s even funnier if you have a basic understanding of Chinese sayings, slang, and internet culture, but the translator included plenty of notes, so it’s not a problem if you’re not familiar with them.
I’ve always felt that comedy as a genre can either be a hit or a miss, depending on:
a) Whether the author is actually funny or just thinks they are, and
b) How well your sense of humor aligns with the author’s.
For me, this novel’s comedy was definitely a hit. However, the later parts shift away from comedy and focus more on emotional development, which becomes more serious. The main characters have a very healthy relationship, and their interactions are smooth and easy. While I didn’t feel an overwhelming chemistry between them, they were certainly cute together.
This is not your typical brainless, face-slapping, nonsensical rich young master plot. Most characters are intelligent, except for the male lead’s somewhat dimwitted cousin, but that adds a touch of realism. The plot is centered on the romance and character development, avoiding clichés and maintaining logical consistency. There’s surprisingly little drama, which is refreshing.
, it’s a nice read. High quality, but not outstanding. The early chapters had me laughing out loud.
