The ghost aspect held some intrigue, but I felt it could have been delved into further. As a professional actress, the character's career in acting and the entertainment industry could have been expanded. Despite being a star in a relatively short period, it didn't seem realistic, considering the fast-paced nature of the industry. The book barely scratched the surface of her filmography and public image, which could have been a more significant focus.
While there were hints of new talent, the book only mentioned a handful of actors and actresses. The supporting characters were underdeveloped, with the main characters lacking meaningful friendships. The male lead's doctor friend was present solely for medical emergencies, without any proper introduction or social interaction.
Overall, the story was satisfactory with a happy ending, but it had numerous loose ends and missed opportunities for growth. It left me feeling that the potential was wasted.
Upon comparing the translated and machine-translated versions, I believe the issue lies primarily with the author's inability to delve deeper into the story. Here are some notable plot holes:
1. There is no explanation for the protagonist's sudden ability to see ghosts; it comes out of nowhere.
2. Her fame prior to the reincarnation is cited as a reason for her prowess, but it feels forced.
3. The character description of the ML (male lead) as a hotshot entertainment company president, who'd eagerly re-claim the FL (female lead) after she pursued his nephew, lacks logical coherence, even within a fantastical context. Additionally, the ML is portrayed as a skilled secret agent in disguise.
While both the author and translator put in effort, I must advise those seeking quality storytelling to look elsewhere. This novel reads more like a youth-oriented work, and while I respect the positive ratings from others, it didn't meet my expectations. The promising foundation was marred by inadequate writing, and despite my initial interest, I couldn't continue past Chapter 15.
However, there are a few areas where the storytelling dips into melodrama, particularly in a later part that attempts to explain their unusual abilities and past lives. This subplot feels somewhat forced and lacks depth, potentially detracting from the overall experience. A more straightforward narrative would have been more engaging.
Nonetheless, the ongoing translation, up to chapter 31 at the time of this review, maintains a high standard with clear and vivid prose that enhances the reading experience. Overall, it's a solid read.
