Hmm... when I began this one, I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it much. Generally, I steer clear of yaoi where the protagonists' first sexual encounter is coerced or forced, which is precisely what happens here. Still, I pressed on and was pleasantly surprised to find the uke's reasons for staying with the seme afterward almost believable—a rare occurrence. There were also a few unexpected twists that diverged from the usual in this genre, but I'll leave those for you to uncover yourself. ;)
ART
The art is undeniably delightful, and I particularly appreciated Yuuya's skill in rendering faces and facial expressions. Another standout was her technique for portraying older characters—often in manga, they appear strange, but not here. That said, the art wasn't flawless; sometimes, in "low-interest" panels, it seemed like the manga-ka rushed through, with less refined lines and a sketchier feel. But these are minor imperfections in an otherwise captivating style.
CHARACTER
The characters initially come across as two-dimensional, with the seme and uke behaving predictably. However, this uke has more spunk than expected, and instead of viewing it as a challenge, the seme leverages it to his benefit. While they don't evolve significantly throughout the story, their interactions are entertaining. My only minor gripes are: 1) The sister vanishes—what became of her? 2) Iwao-san deserved more screen time.
ENJOYMENT
A few elements break from convention in this tale—I won't spoil anything, but those little surprises made it enjoyable for me. The romantic scenes could have been slightly better...but not by much. ;) And, of course, the art was pure visual pleasure, always a delight!
OVERALL
An intriguing story, stunning art, engaging characters, and some fun plot developments. I'll gladly keep this on my shelf for future re-reads.
