Story (5)
It had its funny moments, but for the most part, it was simply too out there for me. Essentially, Jungle King is like a lot of yaoi on the market, where everyone magically turns out to be gay and eager to hook up with every attractive guy in the series. The story lacks any sense of realism, featuring scenarios such as the main character randomly masturbating under a tree during a rescue mission in an African jungle. There are several instances of non-consensual scenes, most of which take place out in the untamed wilderness. There's also an elderly man in the story who appears to be madly infatuated with the main character, relentlessly stalking him throughout the jungle while using binoculars to spy on his sexual encounters. Later, they venture into a snowy region, yet jungle man continues to sport his animal skin loincloth, accompanied by a massive bundle of vines draped over his shoulder. The plot only gets stranger, involving a man in a bear costume pleasuring the poor protagonist and impromptu bear-fighting rings that jungle man is forced to participate in. Jungle man and the main character can't seem to stop having sex, even while attempting to flee from their pursuers. The entire storyline and sequence of events are wildly bizarre. However, I found the side story absolutely hilarious and enjoyed it more than the main narrative.
Art (7)
The artwork is quite good. I appreciate her style. It does have some odd elements, though. The sex scenes were rather detailed, if that's your thing.
Characters (4.5)
I wasn't particularly fond of the characters. They weren't terrible, but they failed to leave a lasting impression and blended in with other stories I've read. Similar to the story, I preferred the characters in the side story.
Enjoyment (7)
This was entertaining to read in a way because it was so weird, but that was pretty much the extent of it. I wouldn't want to reread it or own a copy. I mostly chuckled at how hilariously strange and bad it was.
Overall, I'd give this a 6. While the characters were fairly standard, the sheer weirdness made it stand out. I wouldn't say I liked it, but the art wasn't bad, and it did make me laugh.
