Oh Taranta Ranta, why did you betray me so...

I actually managed to learn all the characters' names, and for what? For you to leave me hanging out to dry? What's the manga equivalent of cockblocking? I really need to start rating my reviews...

It was a good premise. Haruki lost her brother two years ago, and it’s just her and her mom now. Her brother's absence is a palpable part of her life, but she’s working on moving on. She meets a guy who resembles her oniisan, and he seems sweet too. She starts to like him—I can’t figure out if I’m creeped out by it or surprised—but after he kisses her, his attitude does a complete 180, and he turns into a jerk. Is that how her first love ends?

That’s actually just the beginning of the story; you could say meeting him set the rest of the manga's events into motion. I won’t say that Taranta is the personification of high school real life because it isn’t. Sure, some elements are there, and the characters deal with them as best they can. It has potential to be deeper, but it leaves things halfway, especially regarding her brother or figuring out her feelings. It was funny but lacked focus. I know this is a shoujo, and a romantic one at that, but does the heroine have to fall in love and leave us wondering how it happened in the first place? She loves one, then it changes, and she loves someone else. In that sense, I think she captures the stereotype of a high school girl completely, which makes it a little disappointing.

The characters are actually quite charming. I liked a lot of the background characters more than the actual main cast sometimes. They were just funny and got attention from way back there, in letters so small I get so close to my screen I invade my screen’s personal space, so you know they were worth reading. Hikaru is really average—not a bad thing, but it’s a "been there, done that" kind of deal.

The art was above average. It does have a lot of cute guys, so it gets a higher score in the art department just for that. The characters have a lot of detail in their hair since that sometimes differentiates them. I really liked that even from far away, when characters are in the distance or background, the mangaka still gave the art attention, and it doesn’t look sloppy.

I wasn’t the only one upset with this ending. But I also don’t think it was all bad. At least they didn’t leave the girl dangling by a thread (I'm sure there's a specific term) in the middle of climbing Everest. Not that this manga is like Everest...

All I’m trying to say is that it’s a bad sign when I keep clicking the “Next Page” button, and nothing happens, and I check my computer to make sure it didn’t freeze, but it turns out there just aren’t any more pages. That that is, in fact, the ending—we Do not pass Go, Do not collect 200 feelings…

This was an excellent Manga. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. While it did jump around quite a bit, which occasionally left me feeling lost, it always managed to catch up, so I wasn't completely disoriented.

The story begins with a girl named Hikaru, who is starting her first year of high school. Her brother has passed away, and she relied on him heavily in the past. On her first day, she encounters a guy named Miki and instantly takes a liking to him. She also befriends Nene, who initially causes some friction with Hikaru, leading to a fight early on.

Nene gathers information about Miki and then brings Hikaru to confess her feelings to him. He kisses her but rejects her. One of Miki's friends, Jun, tells Hikaru that she shouldn't concern herself with people like him.

This manga captures the ongoing challenges faced by a first-year high school student, highlighting how unexpected problems can arise at any moment, requiring us to overcome them.

The reason I only rated it 8/10 is due to the ending, which felt a bit abrupt. Even one additional chapter would have been beneficial. It leaves you hanging, not in a curious way, but more in an "Oh, so this is how it's going to end?!" kind of way. Nevertheless, it's a great story, and I would definitely reread it.

Artwise, the illustrations were well done. Despite being a short manga, there were many diverse settings and main characters, which added to its appeal.

The characters were also well-developed. However, their backgrounds were kept brief and to the point, lacking extensive histories.

In terms of enjoyment, I absolutely loved reading this manga! Overall, it was very impressive.

(You can find this manga on Mangafox if you need help locating it. It won't appear in the drop-down menu, so you'll need to go to the Manga Directory. All chapters are available there. Thanks for reading my review!)<p>

    Overall:
Yeah, 7. Everything is solid but nothing stands out as exceptional. It’s a decent read if you're just looking for something to pass the time. That said, there are quite a few confusing parts, possibly because the story is so short. By the way, it'll be raining with a score of 7.

    Story: 7
The plot leans a bit dramatic, especially at the beginning, focusing on a heroine who loses her brother and swears she won't cry again. It's about accepting death and moving forward, meeting new people along the way. While this concept is clear throughout the story, I think the way it was presented wasn't enough to deeply move me. In my opinion, you won’t truly feel the heroine's sadness unless you get to know her brother better—but he didn’t receive enough screen time for me to form any attachment. As for the romance aspect... well, that’s where things got murky for me. The relationship progresses too quickly, leaving me unsure of what the characters are thinking. You might find yourself wondering, "Did I miss a chapter? What's going on with this development?" For such a short story, there are simply too many events and characters crammed together, preventing the narrative from focusing on one central theme. Many readers, myself included, were left disappointed by the ending. It didn't clarify what happened between the three main characters. At the start, the story suggests that everyone will eventually die, while the conclusion seems to imply that life goes on—which feels contradictory. But perhaps that’s the mangaka's point?

    Art: 7
The artwork is decent, though I initially had trouble distinguishing between some of the male characters due to their similar appearances. This issue improved as the story progressed.

    Characters: 7
Generally speaking, all the characters experience growth and none remain static—they’re dynamic individuals. As I mentioned earlier, they evolve significantly, particularly the three main characters. However, their behavior can sometimes seem inconsistent. Take Miki, for instance—a guy who starts off carefree but suddenly becomes serious without much explanation of his inner thoughts, making his actions feel somewhat perplexing. Jun, being the silent type, is also difficult to understand. If you enjoy the enigmatic, quiet archetype, you might root for him, though. Their jealousy is kind of endearing! Hikaru, the heroine, is optimistic and refreshingly honest (a common trait among shoujo heroines). She doesn’t sugarcoat anything, which I appreciate. Her honesty shines through when she calls out Nene, and I admire characters like Hikaru who speak their minds and stand up for what they believe in. The supporting cast members are given brief moments to shine and have their own mini-stories, but again, the brevity of the work prevents deeper exploration into their emotions.

    Enjoyment: 7
Despite pointing out several flaws, it’s inevitable—rarely does a story exist without plot holes. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed reading it, and chances are, you might too.

So that wraps up my review. I hope it helps you decide whether or not to give it a try. :)
