Why Harem 😒

Personal experience. 1/4 mile from the police station. 911-busy. 911-busy. 911-busy. Dial operator. "Please get me police station" Police response time: 3. 5 hours. Won't go into more detail other than it involved a crazy drug junkie 4 feet from me. (no one was hurt, except my confidence in the police dept LOL. ) Though. . . there is that donut shop along the way. :)

This is an excellent portrayal of everyday life, with a balanced pace that effectively immerses the reader in the characters' routines without feeling sluggish. The inclusion of combat, especially well-executed and detailed fight scenes, adds excitement to the narrative. Adventure and exploration are abundant, driving the story forward. While there is a touch of dungeon-building, it doesn't dominate the plot; it serves more as a backdrop or secondary element, not the central focus.

I initially postponed reading this due to the "slice of life" label, which typically turns me off with its perceived focus on mundane food-related content and lack of conflict or plot. Despite its high rating, my initial anticipation was low. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging it turned out to be. The "slice of life" tag might not be entirely accurate based on what I've read so far. The main character stands out from the usual cookie-cutter Japanese protagonists; he possesses a unique charm. What's more, the story doesn't seem to lean towards a harem setup, with the MC having a committed relationship and considering other females as daughters, which is a refreshing change.

Additionally, I must commend the translation quality. It's exceptional, with the MC's quirky, offbeat thoughts translated beautifully. I haven't come across many errors in the text, making it one of the best translations I've experienced lately, on par with "Death Mage who Refuses a Fourth Time."

This novel is an absolute deserving 5-star read, my friend (you'll understand once you give it a try). I absolutely adore it; it's genuinely humorous, not forced like some books with obvious attempts at jokes. It's laughter-inducing in a genuine way. Plus, I appreciate the main character's confidence, as he asserts, "Be a man, not a spineless coward who hides his strength out of fear." The author is exceptional, and cardboardtl's translation is top-notch as well.

What makes this book stand out is how you can't put it down, constantly finding yourself reading extra chapters whenever you get the chance. The chapter lengths are perfect, providing satisfying content without leaving you hanging for ages. Even the side stories are enjoyable and well-paced, especially with Lefi, the adorable and awkward dragon wife.

If you think this is just another cliché dungeon-building story with a harem, you're mistaken. There's so much more to it, veering away from those typical tropes. Trust me, just give it a read – you won't be disappointed.
