After 100-200 chapters, the translation gets painful. And it brings tears to your eyes. It's not unreadable, but it's bad enough to affect reading pleasure. Ah...why are my eyes sweating again...I'm rating the later translations as "Requires mana to read, has 5% chance to trigger Confusion, and is below acceptable quality"

The interesting part about this story is not the story itself, it is the subplots of the side characters, amazing worldbuilding and power system

Haven't completed it yet, but, I can say for sure that I completely underestimated the "dense protagonist" tag here. Just beware if you hate this b*llsh*t trope.

Edit: just finished, and it surely improved much after the mc realised her own feelings.

I embarked on this journey expecting an epic fantasy tale. Instead, I encountered a mishmash of overused tropes, perplexing plot development, excessive drama, and characters making painfully illogical decisions.

The story's pacing is misleading; at times, it feels relentless with one explosion after another, yet ultimately none of the political intrigue, side characters, or revelations hold any significance. This manga merely rehashes the familiar theme of "meek girl caught between the bad demon boy and the good saintly guy," so you could essentially skip all the filler in between.

Hilda, our supposed protagonist, is a damsel in distress who vacillates—often within the same chapter—between loathing Laures and pursuing him. She functions more as a plot device than a genuine character since, while the entire chaos revolves around her, she contributes little to the narrative beyond existing and occasionally hindering progress. Laures, the brooding dark demon, exhibits zero interest in anything unrelated to Hilda, with his character design being his sole redeeming feature. Rod, the morally upright member of the love triangle, struggles to choose between serving his deity or Hilda, and suffers the most from the mangaka's inability to consistently draw human-like figures. That sums up the main trio: they lack individuality, fail to leave a lasting impression compared to other shoujo fantasy protagonists, and possess no interests or goals independent of one another.

At its essence, "Seimaden" centers on the romance between Hilda and Laures—Rod is clearly just an extra. However, this supposedly crucial love story receives minimal development aside from the reader being repeatedly told that they are deeply in love (...why? Laures transforms into a demon for Hilda, but... why? She is utterly unremarkable—though in a side story, Laures humorously mentions disliking "feisty women," which might explain his attraction). The mangaka also struggles to maintain consistency regarding their backstory: in Hilda's past life as Eris, she is initially portrayed as Rod's lover, then later as Laures' childhood friend and lover.

The only somewhat engaging characters are Tetiyus (Laures' second-in-command) and Zadei (one of the antagonists), whose antics prove more entertaining than watching Hilda narrowly escape death for the umpteenth time. Another female character inexplicably opts for suicide under the pretense of "getting out of everyone's way"—likely because the mangaka ran out of ideas for her arc.

To compound the issues, the screentones and panel layouts frequently obscure what's happening or where the action occurs. The art style screams 90s shoujo, plagued by "sameface syndrome" and characters sporting identical hairstyles in varying colors. Based on their recurring expressions, I'd label Hilda as "sad," Laures as "tormented," and Rod as "indecisive." As for proportions—goodness gracious! By midway through Volume 1, I developed a mild headache from the bizarre waists (what happened to ribcages?) and malformed legs. While the artwork improves slightly later on, numerous off-model shots persist, and Rod continues to lack definition in his lower half.

Regarding the conclusion: it aligns with the preceding mess. Everyone ends up relatively content, and no pivotal characters perish permanently, rendering the entire saga meaningless due to the absence of negative repercussions. Numerous random individuals die, and cities are devastated—but who cares?

Completing this series felt like a chore. I only read it out of slight curiosity about You Higuri's art and the mistaken belief that Hilda was male. The experience proved dull, protracted, and offered nothing fresh compared to countless other angel/demon fantasy shoujo manga. This is not a superior love story to Twilight. Avoid it.
