Sara fears the Labrynth and fears for her son's life. He's Erthen but his father was one of the pale skinned Skye. At the coming of age ceremony if he turns out to be a Totem bearer he'll be put to death. After all only the Skye are allowed to hold the power a Totem grants. Regardless, she wishes for her son to leave settlement S6 and travel to the lower levels of Labrynth where the sepia skinned Erthen live free of the Skye's oppressive rule. She would have him die free rather than in chains. However, their plans fall apart when his Totem manifests violently in S6's citadel, during the coming of age ceremony before all citizens of the settlement.
Will Sara lose her son or will he escape into the labyrinth which inhabits all of humanity's worst nightmares? Or will he be the one to unite the races against the blight yet to come?
