The series isn't terrible but it's clear the mangaka isn't quite sure what they want to do with it. They want it to be a shoujo romance, so there are a variety of male leads interested in the only woman. They wanted it to be a battle manga, so there are numerous delinquent fights scattered throughout. They wanted it to be a mystery, so the teacher has a vague backstory relating to most major players in the narrative. They wanted it to be a comedy so everyone is exaggerated and dumb as rocks.
Now, that isn't inherently bad. Many series straddle the lines of various genres. The real problem is that the various genres don't really interweave and the author is only especially good at writing comedy. The romances are flat and two-dimensional and never get developed, the battles are sketchy messes with no real stakes or fight choreography, and the mystery is a mess that's doled out occasionally when the author feels like it. It's not bad, but it's not good either.
If you're fine with them delving almost exclusively into comedy, their next major work, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is genuinely one of the funniest manga I've ever read.
It’s definitely a great manga but I don’t want you guys to read 22 volumes like I did and get blue balled
I don't exaggerate when I say this manga is my favorite over all other manga/manhwa/webtoons that I have read. I loved it as a preteen when it first came out, and it's good now even in my late 20's.
The FL is so hilarious. She's dumb as a rock, but walks the fine line so well that her actions and reactions are humorous and not annoying. And in the end she's a badass fighter, so she is far from useless so you can't help but love and root for her.
In addition, her friendship with Hayasaka is funny but sincere. Everything is well done and the art is good too. 10/10
The strong point of this manga isn't setting or plot, it's the characters.
The characters all have their own desires and goals, all of them have their own idiosyncrasies, their own weirdness factor. The main conflict may be about delinquents vs. normal students, but there's barely any difference between the delinquents and the "normal" students at all. There are barely even sides between the people betting against each other.
It focuses a lot on relationships between the various students, and their school life, which does not come across through the tags or the summary very well. Most of the time, the plot sort of fades into the background. There is barely any romance between the main characters.
Why read it then? All of the characters are well developed, have their own interests, and are never one-dimensional or cliché in an uninteresting way. They are delinquents who never do anything, except clean, and study, and help build a better community while being misunderstood often.
you can't hold your laugh
you'll fall from your seat
read it on bed, or floor, anywhere comfort, because you'll exhaust from laughing
ONLY READ WHEN YOU ARE FREE FROM WORK
it can make you forget anything and your tasks will far from finish
BETTER READ IT ALONE
my mom always angry because i always laugh out loud, made her shocked from her sleep
Ever since I found this manga at Barnes and noble I was mostly drawn in by the teacher and main character but had no idea it was age gap which is excellent! I just hope I could find all the manga at my Barnes and noble so I could actually have the complete series which would be a first 😀
Had to drop this. From somewhere around 10 or 15, can't be bothered to verify, the quality of the translation is very poor. I'm not saying this out of disrespect, but I can't enjoy reading this. The sentences only make sense 50% of the time, and even then you remain doubtful. I tried to pull through, but around 26 I couldn't anymore.
I'm pretty sure this is a decent series, but I will have to wait for it to actually be translated properly.
I've read Ore-sama Teacher several times now and I laugh just as hard every time. The story follows Mafuyu, a former yankii bancho who was expelled from her high school. Her mother enrolls her at Midorigaoka Academy and tells her if she gets into another fight that she'll disown her.
The only problem is that when she gets there she saves a guy who ends up being her childhood friend. Takaomi turns out to be her teacher and he blackmails her and her new friend Hayasaka (also a yankii) into forming the Disciplinary Club to clean up the school. Along the way they make friends and acquire new members for the club and fight against the student council.
The plot is normally overlooked because most people read this series looking for a romance - but that's not the main focus. Most of the focus is actually on the random insanity of the club's hijinks as they struggle to make Midorigaoka a better place. The romance is barely there, with some hint of it with Takaomi and Mafuyu, Hayasaka's crush on Usa-chan Man (one of Mafuyu's secret identities), and Okegawa's crush on Mafuyu.
If you're looking for a romance, this isn't for you. If you're looking for a laugh and a good time, read Ore-sama Teacher.
