Oh, interesting. If I recall correctly, Kaito did not ask his assessment from Alice in the WN. Rather than that, Alice explained her assessment toward Chris and the King of Symphonia (I don't remember his name lol) to Kaito.
From the very first major arc there have always been long dialogues, from character introductions, backstories, to spell and ability explanations.
As for side characters, same thing, ever since the Assassin's Guild was introduced, Lloyd kinda took the backseat, and makes sense, the guy by himself is boring and the arc needs a bit of set-up before he can do something meaningful.
The main goal right now is to defeat the hoard before they get through the continental gate and study the potential of Martial Sorcery, both which are kinda moving along nicely, although MS has been shown sparingly, but still, there are some clever applications that go beyond the usual "Magic go VRRRRRRRRRRR".
As for the pacing, It's fine imo, most fights aren't lasting that much.So far this arc has been dope and it has been one of my favorites, but that may just be me.
