    I feel it less as an "ass pull" (since this series is all about last minute power reveals), but I certainly see it as having been pointless. If we barely have the ramifications last for a chapter, what was the point of that development? The debt? Given how prone the protagonist is to entangling himself inadvertently in major events, this felt like a particularly clumsy why of launching a new arc (to the disservice of the previous one).
