In addition to this, from the sounds of it these "lenders" would have engaged in predatory lending practices, making the whole thing even more criminal. If your parents owe a lot of money and then pass away, their assets can be sold to pay off their debts. However, you are not responsible for any debts, and this only applies to some of your parent's assets under certain circumstances. Some items fall under categories like "family heirlooms" and won't be sold off.
