Sky islands and floating castles have been one of my some of my favorite tropes since I was little. Even Swift's satirical nation of Laputa (literally "the whore" in Spanish) skewering the enlightenment still manages to entice. (Laputians were not admirable people. They not only rested on the laurels of their crowning achievement, but lorded its power over other regional nations. I do not think Miyazaki named his titular sky castle after them in ignorance of the negative implications.)

This series misses a lot of what I love about the trope. There is little sense of adventure or a looming sense of ancient majesty lost to time: the castle simply came into being as the main character's fantasy wish and just is. There are better series that handle this trope (One Piece and Asebi and Adventurers of Sky World spring first to mind).

I started reading the light novels for this series and I can safely say I prefer the light novels for the more in-depth interactions and longer scenes. Onto the series, Nanami the main character is a smart guy who isn’t dense in the slightest, he picks up on any hints she drops and they communicate like a real couple would. Definitely some of the best chemistry I’ve ever seen. Very solid series would definitely recommend checking out the light novels
