What it seems to be doing is showing us that once, Sousei was a person who was kind and had heroic qualities, but that's long gone with how he behaved as Red Keeper. It's meant to show that anyone is capable of being corrupt, no matter how good their intentions. Most likely Negi is going to keep contrasting his current amnesiac behaviour against the heinous things he did as the Red Keeper.

@Rigzag99 Oda do know what the one piece is, it’s been the case since the beginning. It was a joke + he wasn’t talking one piece as a treasure but as a whole, as the work of his life. Sandman and other sources cleared it.
