This series is just a huge cuck tease. If you're expecting development with all the girls beyond some ecchi scenes you're going to be disappointed. Even worse is the Hime the first girl, who's overly possessive of the MC, making it frustrating to see him get development with the other girls. Then there's the promise he made with her about doing her not until they go back to Earth despite the fact she openly told him that she gladly take him (sex) anytime yet still backed out. There was no excuse for that especially when the whole premise of the series being is how close he is with he's wives making the ring stronger. But with the constant of him being only into Hime and her being overly possessive, it kills anything going with the other wives.
This series has the titillation of Dusk Maiden of Amnesia but none of the heart. Action scenes aren't impressive, the comedy is weak, nothing much really going on. Best to check out the series for the sensual art of the females but not to expect much else.
Excellent art, tasteful fanservice, pleasant though rather flat characters, pretty good comedy, average plot, semi-successful attempts to do something interesting with fantasy tropes. Not a masterpiece by any means, but a fun read nonetheless
I'm not sure how the author of Tasogare Otome x Amnesia wrote this. Cheap harem, generic, etc. The main character is typical boy dropped in new world, the women are all reduced to one defining trait that all like the main character because self insertion. Honestly disappointing, but it comes free with my crunchyroll subscribtion so I gave it a try hoping it would get better. As of 4/10/2016, it hasn't. Still generic, and as far as echhi/harems go, it's not even one of the better ones out there.
Dissapointed with the lack of depth in characters, dialogue, etc. Like many other manga, in terms of depth, it's 'shonen' with a bit too much nudity/violence for it to officially be.
Well like People keep saying, the art of this manga is really good as expected from "Maybe" the artist; i read another series of his thats why i know. Anyway that is also why i gave this a chance and while im not really disappointed im not really that impressed either. So far things are okay story wise, i just think it should pick up a little more. Also i want to see more action cause it keeps getting interrupted by something which is annoying. I like fantasy manga alot and while this goes into a lot of the generic harem stuff, im still willing to give it a chance cause of the art and the author. Also character wise the MC is okay ( i have one minor issue with him i will explain below) and the first and second princesses are pretty likable; im glad we dont have any tsunderes in the horizon lol. The first princess has minor tsundere momenes but i wouldnt count her as one. So yea besides what i said i really only have one annoyance in this series or more of the MC which is
Anyway this is not a big issue for me, just a minor annoyance but yea so far ill keep reading this
If the Japanese made The Lord of The Rings, it would be this.
Ragtag group journeying around a fantasy world searching for powerful rings while being chased by dark evil beings. They even have a Gandalf, and a 'rogue' Prince. The elves here are treated better for once, similar to LOTR elves (powerful, proud, magically gifted, immortal, isolationists).
However, despite its interesting parts, personally I think its a bit too much of a male fantasy for me. Also, although it didn't feel it was too easy for him to win the second princess it was a bit simple for me - need more 'ooomph!'.
The art, as usual from the mangaka (who started off as a hentai artist) is great, but the story is generic and shallow, very predictable with your usual human/elf stereotypes. I suggest wait till it almost finished to read it in one go.
The Art is fucking delicious. Surprise at Chapter 3/4 😀
I don't hate the story. Hopefully, it improves a bit. Was expecting more angst and drama, but it's actually pretty light.
I'm not sure where all the hate for this came from in previous posts but this has been a very enjoyable read so far. The childhood friend/secret crush has to move far away. The male protagonist jumped into the unknown to be with and declare his love for his childhood friend. That's a hell of a better reason than most of the lost in a fantasy world stories out there now. He ain't the brightest MC out there but at least he has guts.
There really isn't anything bad about the pacing. The releases take time but that's a pretty common problem. Read consecutively, the flow is quite natural.
The art is good, especially the fanservice. All the women are shapely and well developed. No lolis so far. One minor knock on the art is that the combat was kind of meh due to rather bland monster designs (too much black/not enough detail).
The writer is actually best when focusing on humor. Expect a lot of innuendo/misunderstandings as the MC meets women. Elves are also pretty fun in this story... 😛
edit: Hmm. Latest chapter (10) felt very rushed. Perhaps this is where the critical reviews came from. Gonna dock the series a point for now.
Never could understand monthly/bi monthly mangas that only give you a paltry number of pages worth of plot progression. Seriously? 26 pages after TWO months? The mangakka is either very ill and thus unable to work long periods or is just a lazy individual. Hell the art and story ain't that great for such a long wait. If each chapter was an artistic masterpiece like Otoyomegatari then yeah I can understand the long time it takes to get a chapter out. But THIS? An "okay" manga that is hampered by it's long gaps in pacing and the usual cliffhangers <_<
EDIT:
@Drunkguy says, "There really isn't anything bad about the pacing. The releases take time but that's a pretty common problem. Read consecutively, the flow is quite natural. "
You admit that the long releases is a commons problem, what I don't get is WHY. Why can many other mangaka release weekly chapters with same quality art as this one while this series takes so much longer? Of course when you read everything released so far in one go the flow is natural, now have fun waiting a month plus for just one chapter averaging 30 pages (though last few were 19, 22 and 26 pages) with frustrating cliffhangers at every turn. Heck even the current scanlators say they've lost interest in this series!
After reading the review below. I still think it's Shounen Protagonist because he's a typical MC of Manga that suppose to target at younger Audience. YA Story in other word. A Seinen Protagonist wouldn't run into the light right away and would think more on it because people are not that one dimensional. Senien story have complicated theme that this story. This is basically an adventure and saving a Black and White World.
"All I want is to be married to hime and make her happy for the rest of her life." - Yep Shounen line right there. Anyway, the story is good. The art style is cool, and there isn't any overbearing cliche except for chapter 1 - instant power up and prestige because he's the MC.
It's feel rushed romance because it's telling us about their relationship instead of showing us anything, and the imminent harem of chapter 6 makes me want to puke for even considering this a romance. Harem and Romance don't go well together, especially in Seinen Manga.
The current reviews. There has barely been a few chapters out, at the time of this writing 5, and two reviews have said its rushed and generic.
"Shounen protagonist"- No, of course a high-schooler isn't a boy. u_u Shounen refers to boys elementary-high school and seinen is high-school and upwards. What really separates the two, in terms of manga, comes down to level of maturity and consistency of their themes. A quick search of solely shounen or seinen shows up more tragedy or horror subgenre for seinen than shounen. But there are horror shounen and non-tragedy/horror seinen. I digress.
This manga will NOT be like a top-tier seinen like beserk, vinland saga, kingdom, orange, etc.
But there will be mature themes and concepts.
Character that seeks "innocence/shoujo/pure" romance- Are we reading the same manga? No, probably not as nowhere does Satou nor Noakana seem to be in an illusion about their predicament. Satou may not know his surroundings well but he knows that he's there for Noakana. Noakana didn't think it was possible. They're together now and trying to work it out as the disaster is befalling the world. They're in a fantasy world... its unrealistic in that sense. Romance is anything goes. But seriously, what on earth does that have to do with coward?
tl;dr- Its barely out as of this writing, they love each other and have to deal with a global disaster in a fantasy realm. Splendid drawings and comedy with high expectations for story and if you're still unsure, read Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, Maybe's previous non-H and fully translated work.
