An example that I think does this fairly well is Arifureta. Much like in this manga, the MC finds himself alone in the world. The difference is: Hajime immediately sets the endgoal of the story, he wants to go home. Makoto is not as driven. The story dabbles in giving him something, like him enquiring about his parents, developing his realm, breaking his curse, building a company, but ultimately nothing ever sticks. All the actions that Hajime takes in Arifureta are to take him closer to his goal, whereas Makoto just feels like he's... loitering around aimlessly, waiting for shit to randomly happen, like the goddess randomly teleporting him, whom as far as she knows is completely useless, in the middle of a battlefield.
