Well, i think it's not that long considering the pace, there was slow development, but not 0 development trough the 3 years, and it wasn't erased from one arc to the other, they focused on different things aside the relationship tho. Maybe author should have avoided too much chapters where it was focused on side characters, with MC in background, for monthly release, that's underwhelming. But it also raise the hype when it's focused on other chapters otherwise, so... Bah ! >_<
