If you're not a "Gundam Otaku" yourself, you will be left staring blank-faced at all the references going over your head as you slog through what is otherwise a by-the-numbers day-in-the-life-of rom-com that you've doubtless seen and heard before.
If you ARE a Gundam Otaku, you STILL won't be satisfied as the references here are just that: references. The punchline is that Gundam has been referenced, and any joke that does try to go beyond just simply saying "hey remember that?!" falls flat on its face in the delivery or just has a weak premise in general.
I don't know who is supposed to like this. You're welcome to try it, but don't say I didn't warn you.
A simple gag-manga for gundam fans, that almost feels like it'd be right at home with Gundam-san, but unfortunately falls flat a number of times. The characters are cute, but the swings between seriousness and slapstick are haphazard enough to be off-putting. The whole thing is strung together too loosely, and the ending is the laziest, most uninspired thing ever. It tries, and delivers occasionally, but doesn't leave you satisfied in the end. Worth a look for gundam fans in Gundam-san withdrawal, but not much else.
pretty hilarious...alot of things could have been more smoother and better....but it was great...and Hilarious.......but its the ending...tht was seriously annoying......this would be an 9.5 if it werent for the ending..and alittle bit of other minor stuff which added up...........
it can go teens! really! it is a very relaxed romance comedy which is not very romance to no romance at all. baseline: comedy! who's not laughing upon comedic acts of freakalicious lady who cares so much about hiding her nerdliciousness? MOAR!!
I ain't no Gundam fan and I don't really like Japanese humor, but this one had me smirking so much people in the metro stared. The Gundam thing doesn't need you to be an otaku to dig cuz is actually quite downplayed as a general character quirk. What the story is really about is office humor with a dash of romance thrown in - and it's done real well. The office setting is quite elaborate and convincing, the jokes are simple, but funny, some of the better character faces are priceless, and the characters themselves are real cute. Overall, the mood is not idiotic or over-the-top, like in many gag mangas - it's actually pretty realistic, and the funny comes with a dash of that heartwarming mood the Japanese do so well. So, very enjoyable light read.
An amusing manga about an OL who's really into Gundam(Zek/Char fan), but is trying to hide it.
It's definitely more interesting if you've at least seen the original Gundam. The humor would be better if the girl was the only outrageous one, but they add 3 other quirky characters with no one to play the straight man.
Rating: 4 of 5 (for Gundam fans) 2 of 5 (for everyone else) [as of ch07]
The humor and characters just aren't enough to carry it along without the reader bringing along healthy dose of Gundam love.
