    @Imacop - IMO, The pain will still be there but the regret of knowing of what he could have done for her but weren't able to is a bit more painful. And by genetics, their kid would live longer than normal humans. although not enough compare to his, still probably enough to have a happy life.

    It would be bad writing to do, "give Ippo an excuse to get back in the ring" doesn't work if for some reason Mashiba actually dies one because it would just confirm Ippo was correct about how dangerous boxing can be and two Kumi wouldn't accept another person she loves going back into the same profession that just killed her brother.
