He didn't choose not to, it was pretty obvious even with hindsight he wasn't just sitting on his laurels, he was actively working on the series whether you believe it or not. When he said the series was close to ending, he wasn't lying - and was absolutely well within his rights to focus on his health before wrapping it up.
Unnecessary arcs is ridiculous, this story doesn't have filler and every arc is phenomenal in it's own way. You're just bitter that he died without finishing, which fair enough? But don't blame the dude who.. You know.. fucking died to something so out of left field as his fucking heart exploding.
Man talked about the weakest part of bleach, the final half of tybw and said Bleach is overrated lol and Ichigo always gets overpowered
Also romance between them is irrelevant, it was hinted way back how orihime loved ichigo and how they'd end up together and even if I leave that aside why is that even needed lol
Also do you even know why the ending is the way it is? Read properly or take time in understanding what the series has to offer I'm sure you'll find it intriguing
