LIFE is undoubtedly the best manga I've ever come across. Its narrative is profound, impactful, emotional, and remarkably realistic. Some might argue that it's exaggerated, but extreme bullying genuinely occurs in real life, often ignored blatantly. This manga effectively captures the essence of school life, particularly for girls. It highlights how challenging it is to fit in and how far girls will go to feel like they belong. Additionally, what I appreciate most about this manga is its portrayal of the protagonist's relationship with her mother. It's incredibly rare to find a manga that acknowledges how much parents care about their children's academic performance. The pressure depicted here is all too real for many Asian cultures, especially Japanese, where excelling academically is expected no matter what. Unlike any other, this manga stands out as a true masterpiece.

Story: This manga chronicles the life of a girl named Ayumu, who encounters numerous dramatic events throughout her high school years. There's nothing to criticize about the storyline. The scenarios and challenges faced by the protagonist are so captivating that they leave you craving more. The plot is unpredictable, and the pacing is swift.

Art: The artwork is meticulously crafted to evoke the profound emotions experienced by Ayumu. It complements the manga's theme - destructive and brimming with emotion.

Character: The tough situations Ayumu endures are deeply moving, and if you've had similar experiences, you might find them relatable. Surprisingly, there are many 'evil' characters in this manga. All the characters are incredibly realistic; as mentioned, their situations resonate with real-life experiences. These characters form the core complication of the storyline. The author portrays many of them as outwardly terrible and evil, but we later understand the reasons behind their behavior. The characters are the main draw of this manga. I have never been bullied as severely as Ayumu, nor have I witnessed such bullying before. This portrayal of bullying is what truly hooks readers into the manga.

Enjoyment: Life demonstrates how intense high school drama can become and how severe bullying impacts an individual. As we progress through the manga, we develop compassion for the protagonist and disdain for her classmates. Anyone who picks up this manga is sure to be engrossed from start to finish. This is an excellent manga, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a dramatic and fast-paced series.

2015 Edit: The manga has finally been fully translated for everyone to enjoy. Overall, it's a fantastic series filled with relatable characters and relationships.

The drama isn't overly exaggerated, making it a realistic portrayal of what a high school girl might experience. It covers everything from making friends to dealing with betrayal, isolation, and torment. The protagonist starts off mentally fragile until she finds a genuine friend who lifts her out of her struggles. This friend helps the protagonist gain self-confidence and confronts the bullies. The story conveys a powerful message: you only need one true friend to help you through tough times, rather than many superficial ones. It's an excellent read.

Every time I finish a new volume, I'm left wanting more!

I stumbled upon "Life" while browsing through Google images. The cover intrigued me, so I looked up the manga and discovered it was titled "Life." After reading some reviews, I decided to give it a read... and here I am, just a few days later.

    STORY: 10/10
The plot of "Life" is absolutely amazing. Seriously! It's captivating, fulfilling, intense, and it genuinely imparts life lessons (at least it did for me). The narrative explains every character's development, motivations, and everything else without ever being vague or boring. This story dives deep into themes like bullying, manipulation, and learning to be happy and strong regardless of circumstances. At its core, it's about someone finding the courage to overcome all obstacles in her path. But there's much more to it. It shows how being a good friend means being honest and not letting your friend harm others. It highlights the value of friendship and having a reliable companion. It touches on topics such as bullying, self-harm, jealousy, manipulation, friendship, money's influence, peer pressure, and many more.
Additionally, I believe the author draws from personal experiences, which makes "Life" incredibly realistic—these issues, though perhaps not always to this extent, are real challenges faced by many people.

    ART: 10/10
The artwork is stunning!!! Initially, I wasn't fully convinced, but by the end, I loved it. The eyes are always beautifully drawn. The characters' expressions truly capture their emotions. The body proportions are accurate, the panels are well-structured, the backgrounds are meticulously crafted, the storytelling is easy to follow, the art never gets confusing, and in every scene, it enhances the atmosphere perfectly.

    CHARACTERS: 10/10
Wow, the characters. I can't imagine "Life" without them; they're what make this manga exceptional. Every character is dynamic, avoiding tired tropes or stereotypes. They feel authentic and evoke the intended emotions—bad characters make you angry, victimized characters earn your sympathy, etc. Ayumu is an outstanding character, and we get to witness her significant character development throughout the manga. Essentially, almost every character undergoes profound growth.

    ENJOYMENT: 10/10
A common theme among readers is how addictive this manga is. I started reading it just a day or two ago, and during that time, I couldn't stop. Each chapter pulled me in further. So yes, it's definitely compelling.
One of the strongest aspects of "Life" is its ability to make you feel what the characters feel. When Ayumu or anyone else was in a stressful situation, I felt stressed too. Some moments were quite scary when characters were in trouble.
One of my favorite things about this manga is how the characters change, grow, and learn, and how we learn alongside them just by reading. There are numerous important life lessons woven into the story.

    OVERALL: 10/10
It's clear by now that I love this manga, haha. Even though I have a headache from reading it non-stop, it was totally worth it!
I haven't read many mangas, but I know this will be one of my favorites. The themes reminded me slightly of Evangelion, as both tackle issues related to depression, etc.
"Life" was an emotional rollercoaster. It was sad, inspiring, infuriating, scary, satisfying, sweet, action-packed, and much more.

I recommend this manga to everyone. Just be cautious if you're prone to getting depressed easily :)

The story revolves around a girl who faces relentless bullying from various bizarre characters. I had no hesitation in giving this manga a perfect 10/10 rating.

The most captivating aspect of this manga is its unique and intriguing storyline. It even includes notes from psychologists. The protagonist, Ayumu, heavily depends on others' opinions of her, to the point where she becomes paralyzed with stress over the possibility of being disliked. The manga adeptly captures her anxiety, fear of not fitting in, and self-loathing. In one of the early chapters, she questions whether it would be better to remain alone rather than befriend people who only care about themselves and will turn their backs on you at the slightest mistake without listening to what you have to say. Despite these challenges, Ayumu concludes that having friends is still worthwhile. On the other hand, there's Hatori, a strong role model contrasting with Ayumu. She remains indifferent to her classmates' exclusion and ignorance. The manga vividly portrays school life for girls, filled with jealousy and pointless drama. Having witnessed such occurrences firsthand, I can attest that this manga does an excellent job portraying the truth without sugarcoating it.

The art and character design are another standout feature. The poses and action scenes are beautifully drawn with meticulous detail. Even in crowded scenes, every face and body is clearly visible. The use of tones is professionally executed, enhancing the emotional impact powerfully. Some expressions were so accurately depicted that they left me astonished. Each character possesses depth and well-defined motivations, making the conclusion feel authentic and true to their nature.

In summary, while I initially thought the story was about self-harm, it turned out to be more about psychological drama, coping mechanisms, and fighting back against bullying. I am immensely glad I read it and recommend it wholeheartedly. The only exception might be for those who could be triggered by themes of bullying and self-harm, but I believe this manga could help strengthen resilience. Many thanks to the mangaka for creating such a remarkable story and artwork.

    Story: 6/10
UNBELIEVABLE. This narrative is harsh, almost to an extreme. The mangaka must have taken pleasure in tormenting the characters, particularly Ayumu. The plot's sadistic nature makes it nearly unbelievable. I neither cried for her nor felt pity; the story was simply too unrealistic. However, I appreciated that the mangaka didn't introduce a hero for Ayumu, breaking away from the typical shoujo fantasy trope of having a savior.

    Art: 8/10
The artwork isn't bad at all. The mangaka’s drawing style complements the storyline well. If you decide to read this manga, you might appreciate how the art aligns with the plot. It was probably the only aspect I enjoyed in this manga.

    Character: 7/10
The characters are portrayed brutally. While I find Ayumu’s weaknesses off-putting, I acknowledge that there are girls like her in real life. However, it seems implausible that no one would notice or react to her suffering. The male characters are virtually non-existent, ignoring the girls' struggles and bullying, which made this part especially hard to believe. Nonetheless, if you enjoy stories with sadistic elements, this manga could be for you.

    Enjoyment: 6/10
I ended up dropping the manga because I couldn’t endure its sadism. That word sums up the entire experience.

    Overall: 6/10
I couldn’t bear the overwhelming sense of depression, but perhaps others will appreciate its bitter tone. It’s ideal for those who enjoy exaggerated portrayals of reality—stories filled with endless pain and suffering. If you usually enjoy such narratives, you might want to give this manga a try, albeit cautiously.

This anime was an excellent read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. The emotional journey this story takes you on will have you binge-reading the series in no time. Seriously, I finished this series within three days.

Premise: The story revolves around a girl named Ayumu who passed her exams and got into a good school. Unfortunately, she had to leave a friend behind, which made her feel insecure. Ayumu wants to fit in and is willing to endure much to achieve that, leading us to the main plot: bullying. Ayumu gets bullied because the queen bee thought Ayumu and her boyfriend were fooling around behind her back.

Art: The artwork masterfully adapts to capture the emotions of each situation. It perfectly conveys the tone. When portraying cheerful scenes, the art becomes light and whimsical. It uses great lighting for wholesome and romantic moments. For scenes depicting depression, horror, or dangerous situations, the art turns gritty and grungy. The author skillfully switches between these art styles. Some panels look like they’re from a wholesome slice-of-life school manga, others are romantic and picturesque, while some resemble horror or action manga.

Characters: The series' greatest strength lies in its characters and how they contrast and develop. Characters foil each other. Ayumu contrasts with Hatori. Ayumu is the insecure girl wanting to fit in and fearing loneliness. You see panels illustrating her anxiety and insecurity. She even blames herself and tries to reconcile with her "friends" when they isolate her. She lacks the strength to stand up for herself or others. This contrasts with Hatori, who doesn't care about others' opinions. Hatori is comfortable being alone and indifferent to what people say about her. She's who Ayumu admires and wants to emulate. Then there’s Manami and Katsumi, who also serve as foils. Both are terrible people but one has an indulgent father, while the other has an abusive one. It shows that extremes are harmful. Spoiling a child rotten creates a monster since they face no consequences. Abusing a child leads them to displace their anger and may turn them into abusers. There are two teachers: one genuinely cares, the other is apathetic.

These varied characters enable a beautiful narrative and excellent character development. They create interesting dynamics and actions within the manga. Some characters are so extreme they seem like horror story characters. Others are relatable and evoke sympathy. Some are weak and need others to defend them, while others show grit and fight back (and even win). Some chapters are absolutely epic 10/10 material.

That said, this manga does have a few issues that kept it from being a perfect 10/10. Sometimes the main character was too forgiving, which isn’t ideal. Personally, this is why I prefer Vitamin slightly more, as she didn’t tolerate her bullies. Despite this flaw, I still recommend reading this series. It will take you on a ride, and you won’t be able to put it down.

Although Ayuma Shiba faces numerous challenges, she exemplifies the essence of a true heroine. Initially portrayed as vulnerable, her journey through various hardships and transformative experiences—both positive and negative—teaches her that anything is achievable with determination and standing up for one's beliefs. The storyline is exceptional, captivating readers from the very first page. This is a must-read for fans of dark, slightly sadistic narratives. The characters are meticulously crafted, driving the plot seamlessly to its conclusion.

I added this manga to my reading list ages ago. Initially, I was reluctant to start it because I usually avoid high school-themed stories; they often seem too similar. Bullying is a common theme in many high school-related manga, and "Life" falls into that category. The characters in "Life" can be over-the-top and unrealistic at times, but it didn't detract much from the plot. Personally, the story resonated with me as someone who deals with anxiety and depression, just like many of my friends. The main character embodies these struggles. Her inner monologue accurately reflects her feelings about self-harm. The characters were both heartwarming and sometimes terrifying. The artwork is lovely, though some might find the style of the female characters' eyes problematic. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed reading this manga. Throughout, I was constantly wondering what unfortunate event would happen to the protagonist next, and the chapters flew by. Among the few manga with this type of plot, I would recommend "Life," but only after ensuring readers are prepared for its heavy themes and issues.
