Wataru Mitani's life was as ordinary as any other until he discovered the new transfer student fighting a giant monster in his neighborhood. Seeking answers, he stumbles upon a door leading to a world called Vision, a magical realm where fantasy becomes reality. As Wataru's life begins to fall apart, he ventures through the door into Vision to alter the fate that has befallen his family.

Brave Story: Shinsetsu was partially published in English as Brave Story: A Retelling of a Classic by Tokyopop. They released the first five volumes from June 1, 2007, to August 7, 2008.
