In a world where environmental pollution has reached catastrophic levels, most of the land has turned into contaminated deserts. Only a few small areas along the coasts remain habitable, inhabited by people who are wary of outsiders and know little about the outside world except for tales of savage "sub-humans." One day, a young girl named Marine washes ashore on one of these habitable lands with no memory of her past. She is discovered by Kazuya, a boy who loves the sea and harbors a natural curiosity about the world beyond his own. The two begin to form a friendship, but rumors soon spread that Marine might be a sub-human, leading to her imprisonment. Now, Kazuya must help her escape and uncover the truth about her identity and origins.
Blue Inferior had its first and only volume published in English by ADV Manga on June 8, 2004. However, the license was later dropped when the publisher went out of business.
