Amma be honest.  I haven't been paying attention to this manga in a while and I thought dia was the sister...  Who is the sister and dia is a princess right?

So I have a few observations to make.
Man in black created knockers, which are basically "blank souls", a new soul created just before birth (or conception). But instead of leaving them as blank souls, he gave them a purpose: hinder Fushi. He did this in order to promote Fushi's growth.
It also seems to me this imperative to hinder was only given to the first several knockers that faced Fushi. Some later ones seem to have been given a different imperative: "free the fye". So they went on destructive rampages.
Modern day knockers don't seem to have those "orders" anymore. They communicate among themselves and they now know that there is pain and suffering "down there" so they go to help fye by freeing them. This is why they are now rethinking their purpose and trying to coexist.
