Yuuki, the adoptive daughter of Cross Academy's headmaster, is a member of the school’s disciplinary committee, which serves as a front for the Guardians. Ten years before the events in "Vampire Knight," Yuuki was attacked by a vampire but was saved by Kaname. She lost all memories of her life prior to the attack, and Headmaster Cross took her in as his own daughter. Yuuki loves Kaname deeply, even after witnessing his vampiric nature when he bit Ruka. Despite this, she couldn't stop loving him. Additionally, she allows Zero, a childhood friend, to drink her blood in hopes of saving him from madness. Yuuki is cheerful and easygoing, and due to her work as a Guardian, she excels at maintaining composure in difficult situations. There are hints that she is special because vampires are particularly drawn to her blood. Her weapon of choice is the "Artemis Rod," an extendable staff given to her by Headmaster Cross.
It is eventually revealed that Yuuki was born a pureblood vampire, part of the Kuran Clan. Her mother sacrificed herself to seal away Yuuki's vampire side and her memories. Yuuki's existence was hidden from other vampires. She was kept in a windowless basement in the Kuran Mansion to protect her from her parents' older brother, Kuran Rido, who sought to take her when he attacked the Kuran family. This act also sealed her memories and her vampire side. This revelation makes her Kaname's sister and his intended fiancée, meaning Yuuki was born to be his wife.
