Wilhelm serves as Prince Ludwig's attendant, a role he has held since their childhood days. As Ludwig's servant, Wilhelm must endure various demands from the prince, such as carrying cumbersome luggage, being whisked away on impromptu journeys, and occasionally finding himself at gunpoint. His remarkable patience and humble demeanor are key to maintaining his position beside his master. He stands out as the manga's primary source of comic relief.
Honest and kind-hearted, Wilhelm's overly gentle nature often works against him. In his youth, he aspired to become a knight but was deemed too soft for such a path. Those around him exploited his kindness, burdening him with arduous tasks. Recognizing this, Ludwig appointed Wilhelm as his servant partly to shield him from further exploitation by others. Amongst all, Wilhelm remains the prince's sole confidant, understanding the solitude that envelops Ludwig's life. His name is inspired by Wilhelm Karl Grimm.
