Aschenputtel, often called "Aschen" for short, lives with her stepmother and stepsisters, who constantly torment her by making her do all the housework and menial chores. Yet, Aschen has managed to find a silver lining in this mistreatment, interpreting their harsh words as a twisted form of attention from her sisters.
One day, while she was playing in a field, Aschen unexpectedly encounters Prince Balduin. He tries to speak to her, but before he can say more, Aschen flees in surprise. From that moment on, she secretly nurtures a crush on him, and her heart leaps with joy when the prince later announces a grand ball at the palace, hoping to find the mysterious girl he met that day.
However, Aschen struggles deeply with insecurities about her large feet. This insecurity is so profound that it brings her to tears whenever they become the center of attention.
