Ten years ago, during a training trip in the countryside, Genma stole Ukyo's father's okonomiyaki cart, abandoning her and breaking the agreement he had made with her father. Prior to this incident, Ranma and Ukyo were close friends, though Ranma was unaware that she was actually a girl. Ridiculed by her peers, Ukyo decided to dress and live as a boy, vowing not to like boys and focusing on mastering okonomiyaki-style martial arts.
After an intense battle, Ranma discovers Ukyo's true gender. Meanwhile, Ukyo learns that Ranma does not get along well with his "uncute" fiancée, Akane. They reconcile, and Ukyo falls in love with Ranma once again. However, Ranma still treats her as just an old friend, and her attempts to win him over are generally less aggressive than those of his other suitors.
Although Ukyo lives to cook okonomiyaki and runs her own restaurant, "Ucchan's," she would be willing to give it all up if it meant marrying Ranma.
