Tsubasa Kurenai is a suitor of Ukyo Kuonji who followed her to Furinkan High after she left her previous school. Despite appearing to be a girl, Tsubasa, like many of Ukyo's admirers, is actually a male-to-female cross-dresser.
Before the events of the series, Tsubasa attended an all-boys school where Ukyo was also studying, disguised as a boy. Tsubasa quickly fell in love with Ukyo and showered her with gifts, but Ukyo did not reciprocate his feelings. Even after Ukyo left to search for Ranma, Tsubasa continued to send her numerous love letters. Eventually, Ukyo sent him a letter explaining about her engagement along with a picture of Ranma in his female form.
Tsubasa managed to convince Ukyo to let him help at her restaurant, delivering okonomiyaki. This arrangement suited Ukyo because she wouldn't have to pay him much. During his deliveries, Maomolin, who works part-time at Shampoo's Cat Café stall, fell head over heels for Tsubasa and frequently chased him around, asking him to marry him, much to Tsubasa's dismay. Interestingly, even after Tsubasa revealed to Maomolin that he is actually male, Maomolin declared it didn’t bother him because nobody is perfect. Thus, the chase continues.
Tsubasa often uses various disguises, sometimes during battles but often just to make a dramatic entrance out of nowhere. He has disguised himself as a tree, a mailbox, a trash can, a vending machine, a washing machine, and even Ucchan’s Okonomiyaki sign, among other things.
