Teru Mikami is a young man with a strong sense of justice who idolizes Kira. His admiration is so intense that he refers to Light as 'Kami,' the Japanese word for God. He is willing to assist Kira by any means necessary, even if it means sacrificing his own life.

Mikami works as a lawyer and faced bullying in school for standing up for what he believed was right. He excelled academically and became a prosecuting attorney to ensure that criminals received the punishment they deserved.

Living alone, Mikami maintains a consistent workout routine, even on New Year's Day. He is obsessively disciplined and punctual, and overall, he is a talented and intelligent individual who tends to act in a manner described as "Kira-like."

In the anime, he takes his own life after failing to eliminate the remaining members of the SPK and the Japanese Task Force.
