Misa is a renowned model and actress with an intense infatuation for Light Yagami. She often refers to herself in the third person as "Misa-Misa" and tends to be very energetic. Misa assumes the role of the second Kira to catch the attention of the first Kira.
She dedicates her life to Light after he punishes the criminal responsible for her parents' murder when she was young. A burglar killed Misa's parents in front of her, and unable to forgive the killer, she wanted to kill him herself. However, the trial was repeatedly delayed until Kira executed the murderer. The Shinigami following her is Rem. Misa undergoes two eye deals, halving her lifespan each time; the first deal was with Rem, and the second with Ryuk.
According to How to Read 13, Misa falls into despair upon learning about Light's death from Matsuda. She commits suicide one year later on February 14, 2011. It is also revealed that the cloaked woman appearing at the end of the manga is not Misa but merely a follower of Kira.
In the anime's finale, Misa's suicide is neither mentioned nor depicted. During the final credits, she is seen standing on the edge of a rooftop, with a sad expression looking towards the horizon.
