The island's destruction sent it into the Qliphoth, taking Tear's mother, who was pregnant with her at the time, and her older brother Van into the miasma-filled world beneath Auldrant's crust. Raised by Van, the Commandant of the God-Generals, and her adopted grandfather, Mayor Teodoro of Yulia City, Tear quickly joined the Order of Lorelei when she came of age. She serves as a Locrian Sergeant in the Oracle Knights Intelligence Division, a branch of the Oracle of Lorelei that oversees the Score. Tear's detached demeanor is attributed to her mentor, Legretta the Quick, Van's assistant and one of the Six God-Generals. To this day, Tear credits Legretta for shaping her cold, concise, and calculating nature—qualities she also sought to earn Van's approval. It is believed that Tear and her family are descendants of Yulia, the original fonist who discovered the Seventh Fonon. Consequently, Tear can use it. Unlike others who can harness the Seventh Fonon, she is currently the only one, aside from Yulia, capable of performing the Grand Fonic Hymn—a combination of seven Fonic hymns that significantly boosts the recipient's stats, rendering them nearly invincible for a period. At the start of the anime, Tear discovers Van's intention to destroy the main world and accepts an assignment from Grand Maestro Mohs to locate the Seventh Fonstone to reach the Outer Lands. Along the way, she encounters a portal leading to the Fabre manor, where she finds Van posing as young Luke Fon Fabre's sword-master and mentor. She attacks Van, but Luke intervenes, blocking her assault. Unbeknownst to either, Luke possesses the power of the Seventh Fonon, causing a hyperresonance between them and transporting both to the Malkuth Empire. Realizing they are no longer in Baticul, Tear promises to return Luke home. As they journey, they find themselves in enemy territory. After escaping Tataroo Valley and hitching a ride on a wagon, they witness Colonel Jade Curtiss' dreadnaught chasing another coach towards Rotelo Bridge. Explosive barrels tossed from the coach destroy their quickest route out, forcing Tear and Luke to take shelter in Engeve, the main farming town of the Malkuth Empire. Once inside the city, they become entangled in a plot threatening Auldrant. Despite her usually cold demeanor, Tear loves anything cute and fluffy, including Mieu, the bearer of the Sorcerer's Ring. Even in Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, she found Eugene Gallardo and Mormo cute (much to their dismay). Tear is modest about her body and avoids revealing too much. When given a risqué bikini by Emperor Peony IX, she opts for a rented one-piece with a garter belt for her throwing daggers, earning her the title "Rental Beauty." She gets angry when her body becomes a subject of jokes. For example, when Anise Tatlin expresses a desire to have a well-developed body like Tear's, Luke remarks that Anise could never develop "melons" as big as hers, embarrassing Tear and prompting her to scold them. Tear is also afraid of ghosts. During a mountain journey, when Jade recounts a ghost story, Tear tries to rush everyone along, blushing when asked if she's scared. Throughout the game, Tear develops feelings for the protagonist, Luke fon Fabre. They've been together since the beginning. Tear has shown a soft spot for Luke, teaching him to control his hyperresonance and explaining many things to him. She stays behind with Luke in Yulia City when he is unconscious. Everyone in the group notices Tear's feelings for Luke, except Luke himself. Despite hints from others, Luke remains oblivious. There are instances where the group teases them about being in a "lover's quarrel," causing both to blush and deny it. In a scene in Nam Cobanda Isle, when the player chooses which character is most important to Luke, selecting Tear causes her to disappear, making Luke panic. Upon reuniting, Luke admits he was worried about her, leading to a moment of awkwardness. On the eve of the final battle, Luke attempts to tell Tear something important but is too nervous. Both support each other when risking their lives to save the world. Tear is extremely upset when Luke decides to sacrifice himself to rid Auldrant of miasma. At the end of the game, after battling Van, each party member says something to Luke. Tear begs him to come back and whispers "I love you," which Luke doesn't hear. Tear is mostly serious and dedicated to her duties but has a charming soft spot for anything cute.
