Despite his immense pride, he has a deep care for his country and those around him. Asch is also an exceptionally talented cook. Beneath his sharp and calculating demeanor, there are moments where he shows surprising goofiness. Once, while impersonating Luke, he was questioned about how his hair had grown from short to long in a very short time. His spontaneous excuse was simply, "My hair grows fast." Most of Asch's efforts are done behind the scenes, aligning with Luke and friends' goals but refusing to work directly with them. At the game's end, he even battled Luke over who should confront Van. Asch openly despises Luke, viewing him as the one who replaced him. He resents how Luke considers himself inferior, being a copy of Asch, who holds immense pride. Luke essentially took over Asch's life without effort. They are rivals in swordsmanship, both pupils of Van. Though Luke is seen as Asch's replacement, many differences exist. For instance, Luke's hair is lighter at the ends, while Asch's is darker. Their clothing contrasts too, with Luke's white and gold against Asch's black and silver. Luke is left-handed, and Asch is right-handed. Throughout the game, Luke evolves, while Asch remains unchanged. At the game's conclusion, Asch and Luke fought to determine who was the "real" Luke. Despite losing, Asch still viewed Luke as a replica. One of his final acts was reclaiming his name, symbolizing a small step toward accepting Luke and acknowledging he wasn't inferior. Upon his death, Asch bestowed some of his power to Luke, enabling him to use second-order hyperresonance and fully control it. This gave Luke the strength needed to defeat Sync and Van.
