A student of the Night Class and serves as Kaname's unofficial bodyguard. She is often the first to defend Kaname against any perceived threats. Seiren may appear cold, but she is deeply loyal. She is a quiet and mysterious character who only speaks when necessary.

In Vampire Knight Memories, it is revealed that Seiren was originally a human girl named Hoshino. As an infant, she was purchased and raised to become a sacrifice for Kaname to feed on. When presented to Kaname along with another sacrifice, Yoruno, Hoshino willingly offered herself to him, believing that by letting Kaname drink her blood, she would ascend to heaven. However, Kaname rescued both Hoshino and Yoruno by taking them to Cross Academy. On their way there, Yoruno ran back, fearing eternal damnation if she did not offer herself. Hoshino chased after her in an attempt to stop her, but they were both captured by aristocratic vampires. While Yoruno perished from blood loss, Hoshino was found by Kaname on the brink of death. He gave her the choice to die or live as a vampire. She chose to live, and Kaname transformed her into a full-fledged vampire, renaming her Seiren. To show her gratitude, she trained diligently and remained by Kaname's side ever since.
