Examinee #246 during the Hunter Exam, Ponzu is noted for being one of the few prominent female characters to reach the final stages. Her signature item is a large, round hat that conceals a swarm of potent bees, ready to defend her against threats. Despite her minor role in the series, Ponzu's endearing and youthful personality has garnered her a fanbase, as evidenced by her votes in an early Hunter popularity poll. During the fourth stage of the Hunter Exam, her bees inadvertently kill Barbon when she falls into his trap. Although Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika rescue her, Gon takes her tag while she is unconscious, preventing her from advancing to the final stage. In the Chimera Ant arc, after Pokkle is knocked out, Ponzu flees immediately. Realizing that Pokkle won't be consumed right away, she quickly writes SOS messages in blood and sends her bees to deliver them to the nearest powerful Hunter. However, upon deciding to return to the border, she is shot and subsequently eaten by an officer from Zazan's squad.
