Kurapika is a member of the Kurta tribe, which was massacred by the Phantom Troupe (The Spiders) four years before the Hunter Exam. The Kurta tribe had eyes that turned scarlet when they were angry or excited, making them one of the seven most beautiful eyes in the world. This beauty led to their persecution and eventual massacre, with their eyes taken as trophies.
Kurapika is the sole survivor, driven by a desire for revenge against the Phantom Troupe and to recover the stolen eyes of his people. Despite harboring deep hatred, he remains kind and loyal to his friends. He is highly intelligent but can be reckless at times. His Nen ability falls under the materialization category, and through sheer determination, he has enhanced its power significantly.
Kurapika conjures five unique chains from each finger on his right hand. Some chains are specifically designed to target the Phantom Troupe. To maximize his effectiveness, Kurapika imposes strict limitations on the use of these chains. The purpose of the chain on his index finger remains undisclosed.
Kurapika's Techniques:
Holy Chain (癒す親指の鎖 ホーリーチェーン The Healing Thumb Chain): Type Conjuration and Enhancement
Shaped like a cross, it heals wounds using enhancement abilities. In his Specialist state, this ability can heal serious injuries within seconds.
Chain Jail (束縛する中指の鎖 チェーンジェイル The Restraining Middle Finger Chain): Type Conjuration, Emission, and Manipulation
Shaped like a hook, it restrains members of the Phantom Troupe and forces them into Zetsu, cutting off their aura and preventing the use of Nen abilities. Escape is possible only through brute force. If used on anyone other than the Phantom Troupe, Kurapika will die.
Dowsing Chain (導く薬指の鎖 ダウジングチェーン The Guiding Ring Finger Chain): Type Conjuration
Shaped like a ball and chain, it serves both defensive and offensive purposes. It can also be used to locate missing individuals and detect lies. The weight at the end moves toward whatever Kurapika is searching for.
Judgment Chain (律する小指の鎖 ジャッジメントチェーン The Arbiter Little Finger Chain): Type Conjuration, Emission, and Manipulation
A blade attached to the Judgment Chain enters the victim's body and wraps around the heart. Kurapika sets two conditions; if either is violated, the chain crushes the heart, killing the victim. This ability can only be used when Kurapika's eyes are scarlet.
Emperor Time (絶対時間 エンペラータイム Absolute Mastery): Type Specialization
When Kurapika's eyes turn scarlet, he shifts from a Conjurer to a Specialist, allowing him to use all types of Nen at 100% efficiency. During Emperor Time, his Force and Accuracy for every Nen category are raised to 100%, making him an even match for any Nen user regardless of their primary category.
