The childlike goddesses serve Taiitsukun and reside with her at Mount Taikyoku. They are also known as Lai Lai. These goddesses can appear as floating orbs and manifest when called upon.
They have healed Miaka and her warriors whenever necessary, even offering to cure Nuriko's lecherous tendencies (much to his dismay) and to fix Taiitsukun's face (much to her annoyance).
Beyond healing, their other significant role is to act as vessels for the spirits of deceased Celestial Warriors. This allows the warriors to fight alongside their priestess. In this state, the goddesses take on the appearance and powers of the inhabiting warrior.
