Mitsukake, known as the healer of Suzaku's warriors, is soft-spoken and one of the most serious among the Suzaku Celestial Warriors. At 22 years old, he was born in Sōen Village near Chōkō in the northern part of Kōnan. His true name is Juan Myō, born under the star Chariot. Mitsukake's combat skills are limited to his physical strength, but as a Celestial Warrior, he has extraordinary healing abilities that come at the cost of his own life force. He frequently uses this power to heal minor injuries, but after treating severe wounds, he needs an entire day to recover his energy. His cat, Tama, serves as the unofficial mascot of the Suzaku Celestial Warriors and later becomes Chichiri's pet after Mitsukake's death.
Coming from a family of country doctors, Mitsukake often assisted his father with medical rounds. His father tragically died while trying to save villagers during a flood, an event that also claimed the lives of Chichiri's loved ones. Despite his dedication to healing, Mitsukake gave up medicine after the death of Shōka, the daughter of a local nobleman whom he loved. He then focused on finding a miracle herb to cure all illnesses. It was during this period of seclusion that Miaka and her friends found him and persuaded him to join their cause. However, he never forgot Shōka.
Though he appears expressionless and tends to remain silent, Mitsukake is kind-hearted and calm. He is actually quite shy and finds it difficult to be outgoing. He shows particular kindness to the weak, elderly, sickly individuals, children, and animals. During the battle between Konan and Kutō, he was gravely injured by Nakago. Mitsukake ultimately died using all his remaining energy to save a child who turned out to be the reincarnation of Shōka, along with other wounded soldiers.
In Fushigi Yûgi Eikoden, Mitsukake is revived as a young boy who initially does not believe he is the same person. He stays to protect a young girl named Shōka.
