Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese girl who moved to America at a young age, is the protagonist of the story. She impulsively relocates from California to Japan and enrolls in an all-boys school, Osaka Gakuen, because her idol, Sano Izumi, a top high jumper and her age, attends there. To pass as a boy, she keeps her hair short and messy and wears a tight denim vest to conceal her chest. Her relatively flat chest helps her maintain her disguise, though she secretly wishes for more cleavage. Mizuki is a fast runner thanks to her mother’s athletic genes, but she can be quite clumsy due to inheriting her father's clumsiness. She loves all kinds of food, especially sweets, which contrasts sharply with Izumi's dislike for them. Additionally, she can be quite stingy when it comes to sharing her food. Mizuki also has a deep love for animals, evident in her interactions with Yujirou, Sano's dog.
