Millions Knives is the primary antagonist in the Trigun series. He is one of the rare fully sentient Plants and Vash's elder twin brother. Both were born during a mission aimed at advancing the human race, raised on a settler spaceship alongside Vash, and cared for by Rem until Knives altered the ships' course, causing them to crash so that humans wouldn't colonize their new planet. While Vash holds the belief that all beings have the potential for goodness and deserve life, Knives adheres to the philosophy of survival of the fittest. After uncovering experiments conducted on another sentient Plant, he concludes that humans are evil, grotesque, and must be eradicated. Vash opposes his plans and aims to stop him, whereas Knives endeavors to dissuade Vash from living according to the "idealistic nonsense" taught by Rem. His attempts to persuade Vash to join his cause were unsuccessful.
As the story of Trigun progresses, it becomes clear that Knives views humans as parasites needing extermination. He dreams of creating a peaceful and just world with Vash and other Plant kin, believing this can only be achieved by eliminating all humans. Knives never claims to be a God; he merely considers himself superior to Homo sapiens. If Knives managed to kill all humans and commence building his "Eden" on Gunsmoke, it is quite possible he would behave similarly to Vash, as a kind and loving individual.
