Miki is an exceptionally talented and courteous seventh grader who forms a friendship with Utena, even though they are potential adversaries in the duels. An outstanding pianist, Miki cherishes memories of playing music with his twin sister Kozue during their childhood. However, her refusal to play with him now symbolizes a deeper estrangement that leaves Miki feeling a profound sense of loss. His affection for Anthy in the anime (but for Utena in the manga) grows as he recognizes similarities between them and his distant sister. In both versions, his motivation to duel originates from a desire to find something or someone to fill the void left by Kozue. All the female students, including older ones, idolize him, but Kozue intimidates any girls who try to get too close to him. Similarly, Miki is very protective of her, leading her to date numerous boys in an attempt to make him jealous. He serves on the Student Council, seemingly in the role of secretary, often seen holding a stopwatch. Additionally, Miki is part of the fencing club.
In the movie, Miki's relationship with Juri appears more significant, and he starts to develop resentment towards his sister. In one scene, he and Kozue bathe together, where he tells her they can never be as close as they once were. She then presses a razor to his throat and accuses him of betrayal. It is suggested that he plays a role in transforming her into a car, similar to Utena or Shiori, although this is not further explained.
