Melmo was bestowed with a bottle of magical candies by God. The blue candy transforms Melmo into a charming 19-year-old version of herself, while the red candy reverts her back to childhood. When both candies are used together, she first regresses into a fetus and then can transform into any animal she desires. As Melmo transitions from age 9 to 19, her clothing doesn't adjust to her new size, often leading to torn or extremely tight outfits on her adult body. Melmo is a compassionate young girl who often finds herself conflicted between her actual age and the experiences and desires of her older self. The 19-year-old Melmo is exceptionally beautiful, and many men are captivated by her. In the concluding episodes of the series, Melmo's 19-year-old self finds a boyfriend named Jiro, whom she eventually marries. In the final episode, several years after Melmo and Jiro's wedding, Melmo gives birth to a baby girl. This child carries the spirit of Melmo's late mother, thus reuniting mother and daughter and intriguingly reversing their roles. Despite being 19, Melmo does not possess greater wisdom or experience than her 9-year-old self.
