Mei-chan is Naru's younger sister. In the manga volumes 11 and 14, Naru refers to her as her "half-sister." However, in anime episode 22, Mei mentions, "My father married her mother," leading some to speculate that they might be step-sisters, although this is never confirmed. Initially, she tries to get Keitaro and Mutsumi together, hoping that if Keitaro were taken, Naru would return home. She abandons this plan after clearing up some family misunderstandings with Naru.
In Love Hina Again, she makes a brief appearance to assist the Hinata residents with Keitaro and Naru's relationship, helping to accelerate it. She also appears in the final volume of the manga, standing alongside other residents of Hinata Inn while Naru chases Keitaro after he accidentally undresses her. Additionally, she plays a minor role in the Spring Movie.
The character of Mei-chan was created for and primarily appears in the Love Hina anime, though she is mentioned in at least two places in the manga and is seen in the last chapter of the final manga volume.
