Medusa is the primary and most dynamic main antagonist in Soul Eater. As a witch, she is Crona's mother and manipulates Crona into gathering every soul they encounter. Medusa convinces Crona that it is acceptable to take any soul they desire. When Crona begins to waver, Medusa implants a hypnotic spell in Crona’s mind, driving them to fight and kill. She disguises herself as a teacher and nurse at Shibusen to gain access to all student records. While undercover, she presents herself as a very supportive individual to conceal her true nature. Staying at Shibusen allows her to study students to identify potential kishin (demon gods). Medusa is willing to use anyone by any means necessary to advance her plans, even going so far as to plant snake bombs in fellow witches to ensure their cooperation. She can manipulate others without dropping her soul protection, keeping her identity hidden. Her personality mirrors Dr. Stein’s, viewing everyone and everything as an experiment. Snakes symbolize her magic, attire, and she frequently chants "Nake snake cobra cobubra." Thousands of snakes reside within her body, ready to obey her commands. Medusa engages in a fierce battle with Dr. Stein in the school’s lowest level to facilitate the awakening of the first kishin. Initially gaining the upper hand, her momentary delight in Asura's successful resurrection gives Stein the opportunity to slice her in half. Making one final attack and professing her love for him, he impales her through the skull, causing her body to evaporate. However, a snake adorned with Medusa’s arrow markings escapes through a drainpipe on the city’s outskirts, likely her transformed self. Medusa has since been confirmed alive, having possessed a little girl named Rachel. After acquiring the legendary artifact "BREW," she leads a group of Shibusen students in an assault against her older sister, the witch Arachne.
