Wedy, whose real name is Mary Kenwood, is a professional burglar employed by L. She installs listening devices in the Yotsuba Group's meeting room to secretly monitor their weekly meetings. Similarly, she places surveillance equipment in Higuchi's car, enabling the team to observe his frantic attempts to eliminate Matsuda. As a professional criminal, Wedy is only known within the underworld.
For computer communications, Wedy uses her initial, but to avoid confusion with Watari ("W"), she opts for the lowercase form, "w".
Like Aiber, Wedy is mentioned but does not make an appearance in Death Note: Another Note.
Ohba explained that he created Aiber and Wedy to introduce characters with "special abilities" to advance the plot. He mentioned wanting to utilize Wedy more than Aiber, giving an example where Light could control Wedy to install cameras at headquarters so Misa could see L's face "... or something."
Obata stated that he depicted Wedy as a female model since he was unsure about her character type. He added that Wedy has a "stereotypical female spy look." Obata believes that if he had drawn Aiber and Wedy with "a little bit more originality," Ohba might have included them in more significant roles in Death Note.
Following L's death, Light kills Wedy using the Death Note; Mary Kenwood dies in a motorcycle accident in Colorado.
