Maria is a delicate and feminine vampire who joins the night class as a new student. Upon her arrival at Cross Academy, she appears to take an interest in Yuuki and Zero. Maria has no qualms about expressing her feelings and tends to be honest and direct.
She is a distant relative of Shizuka Hiou. Initially, when Maria was introduced, she was possessed by Shizuka, displaying arrogance and cruelty. However, her true personality contrasts sharply with this facade. She is caring towards her friends and desires to be seen as useful. Maria agreed to let Shizuka possess her body in exchange for drinking Shizuka's blood, which would fortify her frail health. Unfortunately, due to Shizuka's untimely death, this promise remains unfulfilled. Additionally, Maria harbors feelings for Ichiru.
After regaining control of her body, Maria reunited with her family. While sending out an owl to find Ichiru, she witnesses Kaname's destruction of the Vampire Council and promptly shares the news. Maria returns to Cross Academy following Yuuki's reassembly of the night class.
