She is the sister of Lee and a member of the White Tigers. Her Bit Beast is named Galux. Mariah has feelings for Ray, the former member of the White Tigers. Mao was born in a secluded mountain village community in China and was the younger sister of Chou Lee. Due to their home's isolation from society, it lacked modern technologies like computers or cell phones. Thus, Mao spent her time with friends Gao, Kiki, and her brother's best friend Kon Ray. Mao was especially close to Ray, as he gave her first Beyblade and helped her practice, leading Mao to develop fondness towards him. The group frequently practiced Beyblading while also doing chores around town.
Eventually, they formed the Chuugoku team, aspiring to become the greatest Beybladers on Earth. Mao is entirely loyal to the team and always strives to maintain peace within it. Her cheerful attitude and support make her a valuable addition, serving as second-in-command. Her Bit Beast, Galux, was passed down from her ancestors in the Minx Tribe. In battle, Mao often taunted other bladers who underestimated her, using her speed to catch them off guard. She eventually believed that winning wasn't meaningful unless one enjoyed the battle.
Mao became very loyal to Ray, and they eventually became friends. She grew angry when Ray, upon receiving Byakko's power as a sign of his leadership, seemingly abandoned his friends and left the village. Nonetheless, Mao remained loyal due to their friendship and was the only team member who didn't want revenge on Ray but was forced by Lee, who wanted vengeance most of all.
Mao and her team participated in the Asian Championships in preparation for the World Championships in Russia. Here, Chuugoku faced Ray and his new team, the BBA Team. In the finals, Mao was narrowly defeated by Ray after an intense battle when her Beyblade stopped spinning mere seconds before Ray's at the match's end. During the battle, Galux and Drigger ceased fighting and surrounded the stadium in emotional energy, making Ray and Mao recall their good times together. Upon Blader DJ's announcement of her loss, Mao felt conflicted towards Ray, missing their friendship, and they considered spending time together again.
The rest of the team later reconciled with Ray, especially Lee. After the BBA Team won the World Championships and disbanded, Ray returned to the village and led the team, now called "Baihuzu" in the G-Revolution series.
In the manga, many years later, Mao consummated her relationship with Ray by marrying him, and they had a daughter named Rin.
