Kai is introduced in the series as a "bad boy." Initially, Takao and Kai despise each other when they first meet. Kai detests Takao because he loses a battle in front of him and finds Takao to be overly critical, irritating, and immature. However, Takao doesn't hate Kai; instead, he wishes to become friends with him. This proves challenging due to Kai's attitude towards beyblading and life in general. Over time, Kai joins the BladeBreakers and begins to accept Rei, Max, Takao, and Kyouju as his teammates.
Being a natural leader, Kai leads various teams including the Blade Sharks (which he eventually leaves), BladeBreakers, and Demolition Boys (Neo-borg). Despite betraying his friends multiple times, it seems that all Kai desires is power. Later on, his motivations shift to solely wanting to defeat Takao. His difficult childhood and lack of social interactions have made him cold and indifferent towards others, though he gradually starts to open up.
Mostly, Kai remains cool and composed. This becomes increasingly difficult with Takao around, whom he later views as one of his closest friends. He forms certain friendships with his other team members, but ultimately, his best friend is Takao.
